In 1397 (during the Muromachi Period) the Lord of the Fujiwara clan had peaceful reign over this area, and the country as a whole was at peace. Thousands of people offered their prayers at the Miyamura area ancestral shrine that he had built, or so it is written.
In the time of Lord Fujiwara Iemitsu, the battle between the North and the South came to ahead in the middle. Many battles were still occurring in the rural areas as well, and the Manor System was showing signs of collapse. So it is said that Lord Fujiwara established a plan to have Mitoshi shrine built in the name of peace. Otoshi no kami, Wakatoshi no kami, and Hieda no kami are the deities that are enshrined there, and they are the deities of the New Year.
Many people come from outside of Mimata for events such as the Ring Entering Ceremony for Babies, and the New Year’s Countdown Fireworks. Other various events are held by the Shrine throughout the year, so please check Mitoshi Shrine’s Webpage here for more information.
